Lab seating: match the chair to the bench and the task
A laboratory chair specification starts with the work surface, equipment and room requirements. Use this checklist to coordinate height, movement and documentation before ordering.
Start with a station schedule
A lab may contain writing desks, counters and equipment benches within the same room. Before selecting chairs, give each station a reference and record the work-surface height, equipment arrangement and activity. Include any drawers, supports or equipment below the surface that could affect the available space. Ask the lab team which stations are shared and which have a dedicated user.
This is original planning guidance informed by Cramer’s official resources, reviewed November 2, 2026. It is not a product-launch announcement or a claim that Edgewater has tested a chair in your facility. Cramer’s seat-height guide distinguishes desk, desk-to-counter and high-height models and recommends measuring the work surface when selecting a configuration.
Compare ranges, not just category names
A label such as counter height is a useful starting point, but the specification needs the selected model’s actual adjustment range. Cramer’s Fusion page publishes separate seat-height ranges for its desk, desk-to-counter and high versions. Use the current product documentation beside the station schedule rather than transferring a range from a similar-looking chair.
Ask the project’s ergonomics or facilities specialist to review how the proposed chair works with the task, equipment and intended users. Where a sample is available, include the actual station in that review. Record unresolved fit questions before approving a quantity; a chair’s ability to rise to a particular height does not, by itself, settle the complete workstation arrangement.
Resolve movement and clearance together
Identify where users need to approach equipment, turn between work surfaces or move away from a station. Ask the supplier to confirm the proposed base, arm and foot-support dimensions against the available space. Check the selected configuration rather than assuming every option fits beneath the bench.
Cramer lists several movement options for Fusion, including casters, non-rolling glides and braking casters that stop when seated. Ask which option is appropriate for the intended floor, activity and facility procedures. Make that choice explicit on the quotation so the installed chair matches the approved discussion.
Give facility requirements their own review
A lab-chair conversation may also involve cleaning procedures, a controlled environment or electrostatic-discharge requirements. Have the facility identify what is required for each room and request supporting documentation for the exact configuration under consideration. A general product-family description should lead to a document review, rather than becoming an assumption about every option.
List the cleaning agents and procedures the facility intends to use, then ask the manufacturer to confirm applicable care guidance and material compatibility. Resolve questions about special configurations with the responsible facility and manufacturer contacts before order release.
Keep the approval record usable
For each station group, retain the model, height version, controls, arms, base, movement option, materials and required documentation. Ask the dealer to reconcile that record with the quotation and include adjustment guidance in the handover. Confirm current pricing, availability and delivery arrangements separately.
